Much to do at the Do­los Fes­ti­val

The 10th Do­los Fes­ti­val will have some­thing in store for young and old. Apart from great South African music, fes­ti­val-go­ers can also look for­ward to a range of ac­tion-packed ac­tiv­i­ties to keep them busy.

Skaters and BMXers can en­ter the BMX and skate­board­ing com­pe­ti­tions, hosted by The Bobby Green­hash Foun­da­tion and Mi­nor­ity Skate Co.

The com­pe­ti­tion will be held from 10am at Alka­ntstrand Skate Park in Richards Bay on Satur­day, 22 Septem­ber.

En­trance is free, but dona­tions of canned food and cloth­ing are wel­come.

Are you more of a wa­ter baby? Then en­ter the Open Wa­ter Swim at Zu­l­u­land Multi Sport Club on Satur­day, start­ing from 1pm.

Un­der 10s can en­ter the 50m or 100m cat­e­gory, while the 200m, 400m, 800m and 1600m are open to any­one.

Have you al­ways wanted to learn how to surf?

As part of the Do­los Fes­ti­val, there will be surf­ing lessons at Alka­ntstrand on both the Satur­day and Sun­day from 8am to 10am.

There will also be horse rid­ing on the beach.

On the fes­ti­val ter­rain, there will be plenty to eat and drink, en­ter­tain­ment for the kids, an art tent and busi­ness stalls.

The Em­pan­geni High School band will show why they keep win­ning so many com­pe­ti­tions.

There will be some chil­dren’s theatre for the lit­tle ones, as well as babysit­ting fa­cil­i­ties when mom and dad need a break.

If you’re still bored, try your hand at the many fun com­pe­ti­tions ar­ranged for the week­end.

There will be a hot­dog and donut eat­ing con­test, as well as do­los build­ing and fruit press com­pe­ti­tions.

Egg-and-spoon and sack races will def­i­nitely cre­ate a few laughs.
