Record haul at charity day
THIS year’s Island View Shipping golf day to raise funds for NSRI Richards Bay was a huge success, bettering the record of previous years.
The 12th annual event raised
R410 000, which was handed over by Island View Shipping’s Roelof Camminga to NSRI Station Commander Bernard Minnie on Tuesday
‘With incredible contributions coming from shippers, shipping lines and related support industry players in the South African shipping world and beyond, the support this year has been unprecedented and records have been bettered for another successive year,’ said Camminga.
‘Thirteen years ago it was decided that Island View Shipping should host a golf day at the Richards Bay Country Club as a primary fund-raising event for the NSRI’s Station 19.
‘From very humble beginnings, tentative support from our local service providers and with Island View Shipping doubling the nett income realised after the event, the financial contributions towards the running of Station 19 started to steadily climb over the years, collectively reaching almost
‘The success of this event would not be possible without the unwavering support from our sponsors,’ Camminga said.
‘This single windfall will take care of all the civil upgrades required at the base in anticipation of the arrival of our new ORC Rescue 1 vessel due next year,’ said Minnie.
