‘With incredible contributions coming from shippers, shipping lines and related support industry players in the South African shipping world and beyond, the support this year has been unprecedented and records have been bettered for another successive year,’ said Camminga.

‘Thirteen years ago it was decided that Island View Shipping should host a golf day at the Richards Bay Country Club as a primary fund-raising event for the NSRI’s Station 19.

‘From very humble beginnings, tentative support from our local service providers and with Island View Shipping doubling the nett income realised after the event, the financial contributions towards the running of Station 19 started to steadily climb over the years, collectively reaching almost

‘The success of this event would not be possible without the unwavering support from our sponsors,’ Camminga said.

‘This single windfall will take care of all the civil upgrades required at the base in anticipation of the arrival of our new ORC Rescue 1 vessel due next year,’ said Minnie.

Bernard Minnie (NSRI Station Commander) receives the cheque from Roelof Camminga (Island View Shipping), with Manie le Roux (NSRI Deputy Station Commander), Dorian Robertson, Charné Skiba, Brynn Gericke and Mike Patterson looking on Tamlyn Jolly
