Peugeot confident there’s room for a SUV
Peugeot in SA, despite not logging the sales figures it would like to, thinks there’s room in our market for another luxury seven-seater SUV.
The brand’s SA arm has issued a media release on the new 5008 SUV and has indicated that the vehicle will be added to its line-up in the fourth quarter, which is around the corner.
According to Peugeot SA, the 5008 will arrive in 2.0 HDI form, fitted with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
This turbo-diesel churns out 110kW and 370Nm, and is likely to be offered in front-wheel-drive form only.
Petrol models are offered in overseas markets, but it’s not yet clear whether these will make it to local shores.
Expect Active and Allure trim levels to be offered in SA, with a flagship GT Line derivative also on the cards.
The seven-seater SUV boasts a second row comprising three (separately folding and tilting) perches and a third row with two removable pews.
This configuration results in luggage space that Peugeot says can be varied from 780 to 1 080 litres.
When Autodealer tested the smaller 3008 SUV, it found the vehicle compared quite favourably with luxury cars such as the Land Rover Discovery Sport in terms of build quality and specifications.
It will probably be the same with the 5008, the vehicle offerings being on a par with similar sized SUVs from premium brands, but at a lower price.
