Zululand Observer - Monday - - ZO NEWS - Orrin Singh

A BURGLAR was shot and killed by a security guard in the early hours of Thursday morning at Old Mill High School in Empangeni.

According to King Cetshwayo Cluster Police spokesperson Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, at about

1:30am the private security guard saw a suspicious man attempting to break into the school tuck shop. ‘When the security guard approached the suspect and questioned him as to what he was doing, the suspect advanced towards him with a knife. ‘The guard opened fire on the suspect, shooting him once in the head.

‘The perpetrator, whose particulars are unknown at this stage but is believed to be between the ages of 30-35, died on scene.

‘A case of business robbery and an inquest docket have been opened to determine the exact cause of death,’ said Mdlalose.

Last week learners from Old Mill High School made headlines after a spate of public brawls outside the school premises. While the incident of the shooting is in no way related to the violent clashes between learners from Old Mill, Richards Bay Secondary and Aquadene Secondary, security at the school has been tightened amid examinations.
