Double burglary at Bay squash club
VELDENVLEI Squash Club suffered a double blow last week when the facility was twice burgled and stripped of copper piping and bathroom fittings.
The first strike was on Wednesday when the brazen robbers damaged a burglar bar and gained entry through the window, stripped the bathrooms and change rooms of all the metal fittings and copper piping and broke several sink basins in the process.
Damaged pipes caused flooding inside the premises and water overflowed into the squash courts, causing substantial damage to the wooden floors.
Pipes at the facility’s geyser room were also cut, leaving water gushing for hours.
The electricity supply was down at the facility and it is believed the criminals could also have tampered with power cables.
Returning on Thursday afternoon, they damaged a different burglar bar and completely removed the window pane to gain entry and steal the remainder of the bathroom, tap fittings and copper piping.
Wiring and cables inside the building were also removed and ceiling boards were damaged when they entered through the trap door to locate the geyser and steal the copper connections.
