Police investigate Bay drownings
RICHARDS Bay police have opened two inquest dockets to investigate two separate drowning incidents last weekend.
In the first incident, an 18-month-old toddler drowned in a residential swimming pool at a home in Arboretum.
According to Netcare 911’s Shawn Herbst, the child was found floating in the swimming pool by a family member.
Paramedics were called to the scene and full Advanced Life Support resuscitation was initiated, but the child did not respond and was declared deceased.
In the second incident, a 47-year-old man drowned at the Bay Hall area.
NSRI Station 19 duty crew were alerted by Transnet National Ports Authority.
NSRI rescue swimmers, SAPS, SAPS search and rescue and ICE Medical Services responded.
According to NSRI duty coxswain Norman Rautenbach, members of the public had recovered the body which was found floating in the water.
Paramedics declared the man deceased on the scene and the body taken to the Forensic Pathology Services.
