An accident waiting to happen

Zululand Observer - Weekender - - ZO LETTERS - B BLAKE Empangeni

On Sunday morning I was coming from Empangeni town, crossing the Main Road intersection on the corner of Turnbull Street (opposite McDonalds) when a car came speeding down the road as I was already halfway across the intersection.

It almost hit me on the left side of the vehicle.

I was wondering why this driver had ignored the stop sign - when I saw this (see photo).

Clearly this sign has been lying on the pavement for ages.

No one cares about the safety of people in Empangeni.

While I was taking this photo there was almost another accident owing to this road sign not being visible.

Talk2us just doesn’t mean anything.

Maybe this needs to go higher up to national level?

If any accident happens to me, the uMhlathuze Municipality and the traffic department will be liable for damages and injuries.

This is an unsafe condition for all road users.

Hopefully there will be a response and action in the next few days.
