FORD has finally taken the covers off the next generation Focus, after the brand had fed the global media with a series of teaser images over the last few weeks.

It’s all new from the ground up, says Ford, and the first car on the brand’s new C2 platform and, while we are still awaiting the finer detail, will introduce ‘a number of firsts for the segment both in terms of safety and creature comforts’, according to the press release.

Ford also says the new Focus will be as safe as can be with a five star Euro NCAP rating and in some models even offer ‘level two autonomous driving’.

Two new Ecoboost petrol engines and two turbo-diesels will be doing duty under the bonnet and, derivative depending, will be driven through either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.

Pictured here is a ST-Line Ford Focus, which suggests the brand will be copying what makers like VW have been doing, offering a variant with a sporty look at a lower price than the actual hot model.

Ford has yet to reveal details of the actual ST or RS models.

The new Focus will go on sale in Europe later this year and is expected to reach local shores in 2019.
