Brackenham retains first division status for next season
BRACKENHAM retained their first division status for the 2018/2019 cricket season after beating Kings XI by seven wickets in the Saturday 24-Over League promotion/relegation match at the uMhlathuze Central Sports Complex on Saturday.
The Richards Bay outfit finished last on the log in the first division after an upand-down season that placed the side in the pressure cooker.
But big match temperament came to the fore just in time to keep their senior status intact.
Brackenham won the toss and elected to bowl first.
They restricted the Kings XI to 168 all out thanks mainly to Shaun Marimuthoo (3/33 in 6) and Errol Chetty (2/36 in 5).
Kyle Bell smashed a solid 63 to keep the Kings in the mix, with Mohammed Tanver contributing 20.
But a brilliant batting display and big partnerships steered Brackenham to 172/3 in the 19th over.
Chetty put on 45, with Dharmandrin Pillay smashing an unbeaten 43 off 63 balls.
Zeshan Ashraf was the pick of the Kings XI bowling attack with figures of 3/36 in 6.
The first division final will be contested on Saturday at Addison Park between Empangeni Cricket Club and Richards Bay Cricket Club.
Action is scheduled to get underway from 1.15pm and will mark the official end of the 2017/2018 season.
