ALTHOUGH the rain made its presence felt during the first round of the Haig’s Mowers Zululand League, which kicked off at the Empangeni Bowling Club last Sunday, the deluge that inundated Richards Bay thankfully stayed away.

In the women’s section, only Mtunzini came through the two rounds unscathed by virtue of beating Empangeni Bowling Club C 12-6 and Empangeni Country Club 22-7.

Empangeni Bowling Club A, after losing 6-8 to Richards Bay B, beat Richards Bay A by the surprisingly large margin of 24-7.

Only eShowe failed to register any points when they were beaten 13-4 by Country Club and 10-18 by Bowling Club C.

A long haul remains to be negotiated however before the finals in August.

In the men’s section, there were three peeled games, and after beating Country Club B 1610, eShowe 18-13 and Mtunzini A 12-10, Bowling Club B are the only team who did not drop a point.

Richards Bay A beat Richards Bay C 13-11, Country Club B 22-7 and then peeled 13-13 with Mtunzini B.

Richards Bay B beat Bowling Club A 158, Mtunzini B 18-9 and peeled 16-16 with Mtunzini A.
