Perfect Moor Cup rugby opener for Bay

Zululand Observer - Weekender - - ZO SPORT - Dave Savides

RUNNING in no fewer than seven tries, Richards Bay began their Moor Cup rugby campaign in excellent fashion when they trounced UKZN Pietermaritzburg 45-6 in an away game on Saturday.

The students were no match for the power and pace of the Bay boys, who were also superb on defence and did not concede a try.

Steven Meyer and Jors Danhauser each grabbed two tries, with Dean Moolman, Du Toit Visser and Rynhard Scheepers also crossing the line for five-pointers.

Playing in the Wylie Cup League, Richards Bay’s second team shaped up well, but eventually went down 15-8 to the UKZN reserve side.

It is still early days, but the club will get a better idea of relative strengths and weaknesses when they host Durban Collegians on Friday evening, with the reserves kicking off at 7pm and the first teams at 8.30pm.

The U20 side will play away to Crusaders, also on Friday.
