Zululand Observer - Weekender - - AGRIPULSE - Wellington Makwakwa

RESIDENTS received valuable information on agricultural business opportunities during the agriculture imbizo at uMkhobose in eSikhaleni on Thursday.

Spearheaded by Ward 16 Councillor Thami Phahla, the conference was held to expose the community to possible careers and business opportunities within the sector.

The programme was also meant to stimulate an interest among community members to pursue agricultural activities.

‘Agriculture in one of the key economic sectors and a major player in creating employment and sustaining rural livelihoods,’ said Phahla.

‘It has however been acknowledged the sector is not contributing to its full potential and one of the major factors for this lack of transformation is lack of access to markets and funding opportunities for small farmers,’ he said.

The programme also included speakers from various departments who shared their knowledge with residents.
