RESIDENTS of Mdedefana Reserve in Ingwavuma took to the streets protesting since last Friday against the removal of the master light from the local sport field.

Residents have threatened to intensify their protest against Councillor Ernest Vilane and local iNkosi Lubelo Mngomezulu if the two did not return the light.

Community leader Mbolile Mngomezulu said the light was installed in 2013 on the sport ground to enable local children to play into the night, but that was not happening.

‘We have met with Mayor Mabika to inform him of the seriousness of this matter.’

Jozini Mayor Delani Mabika said he was unaware that the light was removed.

‘I had a meeting with iNkosi Mngomezulu before the light was removed, during which he proposed that we should remove the light and install it between the clinic and his homestead since his house was set alight by unknown men.

‘I suggested to him that we would submit the request and incorporate it into our Integrated Development Plan (IDP), so that we can budget for it. It is clear that the community was not consulted,’ said Mabika.
