All set for lo­cal by-elec­tions

TWO by-elec­tions will take place in the King Cetshwayo Dis­trict next week.

Ac­cord­ing to Elec­toral Com­mis­sion of South Africa (IEC) Dis­trict Man­ager Stella Dlamini, vot­ers in Richards Bay’s Ward 3 and Mthon­ja­neni are urged to diarise next Wed­nes­day, 3 Oc­to­ber to cast their votes.

‘Var­i­ous vot­ing sta­tions will be set up in both ar­eas to ac­com­mo­date regis­tered vot­ers and will be open be­tween 7am and 9pm.

‘Un­for­tu­nately, the regis­tra­tion phase has since passed and those not regis­tered will not be able to vote,’ said Dlamini.

The by-elec­tions fol­low the res­ig­na­tion of the DA ward coun­cil­lor in Richards Bay and the death of the IFP ward coun­cil­lor in Mthon­ja­neni.

Dlamini said the Dis­trict IEC of­fice was ready for the by­elec­tions.

‘Ev­ery­thing has been or­gan­ised, we have re­cruited staff, set up the vot­ing sta­tion ar­eas and dis­trib­uted the nec­es­sary ma­te­rial,’ she said.
