ANC Women’s League mourns minister’s death
THE ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) in the Musa Dladla Region has described the passing of Minister of Environmental Affairs, Edna Molewa, as a great loss to the nation.
Molewa (61) died in a Pretoria hospital last Saturday after she fell ill while on an official trip to China earlier last month.
ANCWL regional spokesperson, Pinky Cele, said as part of honouring Molewa, ‘who was a fearless fighter against crimes committed against the environment and protected species’, they will engage in various activities in the region.
‘We will miss her instructive guidance on politics, socio-economics, African values, environmental matters and conservation.
‘She was active in the Mass Democratic Movement for more than four decades and was a leader in a trade union movement, civil society and in the ANC.
‘In her honour we will champion the fight waged by women for equality, safety and jobs. We will conduct environmental awareness campaigns and start a process of naming one of our new branches in her name,’ Cele said.
‘She may be gone, but in our hearts and minds she will forever be with us.’ Molewa also previously served as North West premier in 2004, making her the first female premier of the province.
Her official state funeral will take place this
