The slip­pery float­ing bridge catches out 50km rider, Bonginkosi Ngubane, in Sun­day’s Steel Plate So­lu­tions Em­pan­geni Leop­ard Chase event.

THE Steel Plate So­lu­tions Em­pan­geni Leop­ard Chase on Sun­day saw rid­ers go­ing all out for the last avail­able points in the Bell Big 5 Se­ries.

Two 50km rid­ers from Mau­ri­tius, Michel Mayer (grand master) and Alexan­der Mayer (elite), com­peted in the race and were im­pressed with the or­gan­i­sa­tion and the track.

They fin­ished in times of 2:53:30 and 2:09:40 re­spec­tively, with Alexan­der com­plet­ing the race in third over­all and first in the elite cat­e­gory.

The Bell Big 5 se­ries win­ners were Max John­son and Gwen Far­land in the male and fe­male 10km event, re­spec­tively.

In the 25km male race, Ja­son Ack­er­man was the win­ner, while Mare Pi­eterse de Jager the first wo­man.

Over the 50km dis­tance An­drew John­son won the men’s race, with Hay­ley Smith tak­ing the women’s ti­tle.
