Work­shop for bird breed­ers

IN re­sponse to nu­mer­ous re­quests for ad­vice, the Zu­l­u­land Avi­cul­tural So­ci­ety has in­vited a prom­i­nent vet­eri­nar­ian to hold a work­shop in Richards Bay.

Dr Anton Smit will ad­dress mem­bers and vis­i­tors at 7pm on 1 Novem­ber at 36 Weigelia street, Velden­vlei.

The gen­eral topic is: ‘The di­ag­no­sis and treat­ment prin­ci­ples of sick birds’.

In ad­di­tion to learn­ing how to deal with var­i­ous bird ail­ments, in­for­ma­tion will be shared on bird sex­ing.

There is no en­try fee.

Dr Smit qual­i­fied as a vet 1989, and apart from his pri­vate prac­tice he is also a breeder of par­rots, with 120 breed­ing cages in his own col­lec­tion.

On the same day, Dr Smit will also be avail­able at Supreme Pets from 8am for sur­gi­cal sex­ing of birds, wing and toe­nail clip­ping and mi­cro-chip­ping of birds.

The Zu­l­u­land Avi­cul­tural So­ci­ety was formed in 2001 and pro­motes eth­i­cal breed­ing at in­ter­na­tional stan­dards.

Meet­ings are held ev­ery third Fri­day of each month.
