The story of ‘Mad Mike’ brought alive
THE guest speaker at this month’s eShowe History Club meeting is Chris Hoare, son of ‘Mad Mike Hoare’.
The presentation will be at 6.30pm on Friday 12 October in the Adams Outpost Restaurant, Fort Nongqayi Museum Village, eShowe.
Chris Hoare is the eldest son of ‘Mad Mike’ and was born in London, grew up in Westville and went to school at Michaelhouse.
He has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Natal.
His ‘gap year’ in Europe continued for 10 years and included a host of minor adventures in England and Europe.
He then settled into a career in journalism of different kinds in Durban, including public relations, photography and desktop publishing.
He is married to Terry and has two 20-something-year-old youngsters.
With unique access to Mike Hoare and his story, it took Chris about 12 years, working between times, to research and write a biography on his father’s life.
It became his passion. He has now reinvented himself as book publisher.
Chris will introduce his recently published biography of his father.
Paperback copies will be available for sale at R350 or a limited hardcover edition signed by both Mike and Chris at R700.
Bookings for supper need to be made with Angela before 10am on Thursday 11 October on 035 4741718 or adamsoutpost@ netactive.co.za.
Chris Hoare will introduce his book about his father ‘Mad Mike Hoare - The Legend’
