Giles and Hoosen share the spoils

THE 2018 St Cather­ine’s School an­nual prize­giv­ing cer­e­mony was dom­i­nated by cur­rent head girls Sarah Giles and Dux pupil Aam­i­nah Hoosen, who grabbed 13 awards be­tween them.

Sarah, who not only achieved aca­dem­i­cally this year, but sport­ing as well, re­ceived the fol­low­ing awards:- Heather Brook float­ing tro­phy for lit­er­a­ture, Mater Dei float­ing tro­phy for speech, Sr Ann Thöle float­ing tro­phy for­life ori­en­ta­tion,

Rhind ge­og­ra­phy float­ing tro­phy (which was shared with Jes­sica van Huyssteen), Kle­ber Chem­i­cals float­ing tro­phy for phys­i­cal science, Vic­to­ria and An­drea Vla­chos float­ing tro­phy – pre­sented to the ma­tric with the 2nd high­est year mark, Se­nior Good­fel­low­ship float­ing tro­phy, Cyril Mo­ril­lion float­ing tro­phy – pre­sented to the most pub­lic spir­ited ma­tric, Sr Jeanne-Marie memo­rial float­ing tro­phy – pre­sented to the pupil who par­tic­i­pates con­sis­tently in all St Cather­ine’s has to of­fer in the sport­ing, cul­tural, aca­demic and spir­i­tual fields and the Monika Fahn memo­rial float­ing tro­phy – awarded by the Prin­ci­pal.

Hoosen was awarded the book prize

- Die Janse van Rens­burg Boekprys vir Deurset­tingsver­moë, Em­print float­ing tro­phy for math­e­mat­ics, Beath float­ing tro­phy for ac­count­ing and Ma­tric Dux float­ing tro­phy.

Deputy head girl Wanele Mabaso picked up the Young lady of the year award and God­dards-Löf­fler float­ing tro­phy for busi­ness stud­ies. Grade eleven pupil Ol­wethu Mb­hele (Head Girl) and Khanyi Ngob­ese (Deputy Head Girl) were an­nounced school lead­ers for 2019.
