Judge shelves murder case
By Emma Randle A judge has closed the case of a murdered woman whose remains were found last year among El Ejido greenhouses.
A 47-year-old Moroccan man charged with her murder has walked free after the judge ruled this week there was insufficient evidence to try the case.
The man was accused of killing his former girlfriend in 2011 after her body was found wrapped in plastic in a ditch in the Pamp- anico area of El Ejido in October 2016.
Police discovered he had visited the victim the day she disappeared, leaving the country days later and only returning in 2015, during which time the body remained undiscovered.
He was arrested and put into El Acebuche prison in March but was released on probation in June after an autopsy was unable to confirm the cause of death due to decomposition of the body.
