Judge shelves mur­der case

By Emma Ran­dle A judge has closed the case of a mur­dered woman whose re­mains were found last year among El Ejido green­houses.

A 47-year-old Moroc­can man charged with her mur­der has walked free af­ter the judge ruled this week there was in­suf­fi­cient ev­i­dence to try the case.

The man was ac­cused of killing his for­mer girl­friend in 2011 af­ter her body was found wrapped in plas­tic in a ditch in the Pamp- an­ico area of El Ejido in Oc­to­ber 2016.

Po­lice dis­cov­ered he had vis­ited the vic­tim the day she dis­ap­peared, leav­ing the coun­try days later and only re­turn­ing in 2015, dur­ing which time the body re­mained undis­cov­ered.

He was ar­rested and put into El Ace­buche prison in March but was re­leased on pro­ba­tion in June af­ter an au­topsy was un­able to con­firm the cause of death due to de­com­po­si­tion of the body.
