Marjal clean-up planned

Costa Blanca News (North Edition) - - NEWS -

A RIVER in the Pego-Oliva Marjal marshes (on the border between Valencia and Alicante provinces) is due for a spring clean, and volunteers are needed for the decluttering exercise.

Specialist sub-aquatic engineering firm Kraken will be working all tomorrow morning (Saturday May 24) scooping out rubbish from the Bullent, where Pego's crazy fancy-dress raft race is held a week before the start of Lent.

Helped by a floating platform to tackle hard-to-reach areas, the team is one of many across the continent taking part in the 'Let's Clean Up Europe' project, where professionals and members of the public will tidy up parks, gardens, lakes, roads, ponds and rivers throughout the month of May.

'Let's Clean Up Europe' is aimed at creating awareness and getting the public to do their bit to help their planet.

Anyone who wants to join in should head to the river Bullent, which starts near the Oliva-Pego road, between 08.00 hrs and 14.00 hrs.
