BAD TIMING FOR PUERTO BLANCO
By Rob Jennings A PETITION of up to 360 signatures from people who reside in Puerto Blanco will be handed in to the mayor in Calpe.
They will voice their concerns about the public works that have begun in the area which brings along with it heavy construction vehicles, ground excavation and increased traffic.
This all obstructs access to public areas and the beaches and will affect areas of tourism, which plays a vital role in the local economy.
The mayor has written to the director general of Public Works to advise him of the unpopular timing of the works and has re- quested a solution, possibly to delay the work until the end of the summer season.
Local residents were upset by the fact that no notice had been given about the start of works in the area, and subsequently were not allowed to voice their opinion about how this would affect local businesses, tourism and public life in general.
Effectively, business owners want to avoid the negative impact on the local economy and are seeking to delay the works until the end of the summer season, in order not to undermine the local economy, whose main engine is tourism.
