Dé­nia restau­ra­teur in the dock for rape

A restau­rant owner ac­cused of rap­ing a woman on his Dé­nia premises is fac­ing 12 years in prison, ac­cord­ing to the pros­e­cu­tion.

The ac­cused, along with an­other man, is said to have met the vic­tim and a male friend of hers in a nightclub and, af­ter some time chat­ting, in­vited the group back to his restau­rant.

Once there, they put mu­sic on and drank al­co­hol, the case notes say.

The vic­tim be­came very drunk, and the restau­ra­teur took ad­van­tage of her and sex­u­ally as­saulted her.

She also suf­fered in­juries to her knees, arms and el­bows.

The trial was due to com­mence on Tues­day this week at Ali­cante pro­vin­cial court, more than two-and-a-half years af­ter the at­tack.

So far, the restau­rant and its owner have not been named.
