Fake police officer searched cars
A bogus National Police officer stopping and searching cars on urbanisations has been caught, says Jávea Guardia Civil.
Expats reported a man in a balaclava and forensic police jacket with a suspectlooking ID badge pulling up vehicles on the urbanisations on the Jávea-Benitachell border, and on the Cumbre del Sol.
Friday 13 turned out to be unlucky for the 40-year-old Spaniard, who was arrested after being spotted in action.
He told police he was looking for a man who owed him money and was avoiding paying up.
By posing as an official, he had hoped to catch the debtor out.
But he has been formally charged with usurping public functions and has not managed to recover his cash.
