Mountain goat rescued from well

- By Jo Pugh

A RESCUE team had an interesting mission to carry out last Sunday near Calpe when a walker discovered a goat stuck six metres down an open well.

The Guardia Civil had received a telephone call saying that the animal was alive but distressed, and a mountain rescue team were called to assist in its rescue.

The goat had fallen down the well, located on the Olta mountain, and two members of the rescue team, Juanjo Garcela and Jaume Boronad, descended by rope ladder to reach the frightened animal. Being scared of humans, the goat became extremely distressed, until one of the men produced some food, and as the goat took it, they quickly grabbed it.

On reaching the surface, and seeing the goat was uninjured, they released it and it quickly joined its herd.
