ALICANTE ON TOP
The province is the firm favourite for non-Spanish home buyers
ALICANTE remains the first choice for foreign property buyers in Spain.
Figures released on Wednesday by the ministry for public works show that they purchased 4,931 homes in the province during the second quarter of this year.
Alicante leads the national ranking of property sales to non-Spanish buyers by a huge margin. The province is followed by Málaga (2,863 properties), Barcelona (2,103), Madrid (1,729), Santa Cruz de Tenerife (1,666) and the Balearics (1,493).
The ministry pointed out that during the second trimester a total of 24,009 properties had been sold to expats and non-residents in Spain, making up 17% of national sales.
According to the ministry, property sales to non-Spanish buyers increased by 13% from April to June compared to the figures for the same period last year.
The overall figures show that a total of 141,582 properties were sold in Spain from April to June to national and international buyers.
However, sales of new and off-plan homes remain low, only making up 9.4% of all property sales (12,794 homes).
