OFFICERS DETAINED IN DRUG RING BUST
Briton detained along with dirty Guardia Civil officers and other suspects
A TOTAL of 10 Guardia Civil officers and a British resident are among 19 suspects arrested in connection with the production and sale of narcotics in Alicante province and Murcia.
The investigation and arrests have been carried out by the Guardia Civil.
A press release from the force notes that Alicante Guardia Civil officers have dismantled three laboratories which were set up to produce cocaine.
At the same time they seized 200 grams of the drug, ‘chemical substances’, products for adulterating the cocaine, scales, €25,000 in cash, a revolver and a number of computers.
Drug ring arrests
According to regional Spanish newspaper Diario Información, the Guardia Civil officers arrested were stationed in Torrevieja and Pilar de la Horadada.
The investigation is being supervised by a judge from Torrevieja courthouse.
A spokesman for the Guardia Civil explained that Operation Sakura had been launched in the provinces of Alicante, Valencia, Cádiz and Murcia following an official complaint presented by a member of the public, who had ‘made the authorities aware of the activities of this group’.
According to Información, the investigation began in 2015.
The Guardia Civil press release notes: “The investigations carried out by Alicante Guardia Civil have ended with the arrest of nine men who hail from Spain, Britain, Belgium and Colombia who formed part of a criminal organisation dedicated to trafficking drugs, along with 10 Guardia Civil officers – and seven more suspects are under investigation.”
