OF­FI­CERS DE­TAINED IN DRUG RING BUST

Bri­ton de­tained along with dirty Guardia Civil of­fi­cers and other sus­pects

A TO­TAL of 10 Guardia Civil of­fi­cers and a Bri­tish res­i­dent are among 19 sus­pects ar­rested in con­nec­tion with the pro­duc­tion and sale of nar­cotics in Ali­cante province and Mur­cia.

The in­ves­ti­ga­tion and ar­rests have been car­ried out by the Guardia Civil.

A press re­lease from the force notes that Ali­cante Guardia Civil of­fi­cers have dis­man­tled three lab­o­ra­to­ries which were set up to pro­duce co­caine.

At the same time they seized 200 grams of the drug, ‘chem­i­cal sub­stances’, prod­ucts for adul­ter­at­ing the co­caine, scales, €25,000 in cash, a re­volver and a num­ber of com­put­ers.

Drug ring ar­rests

Ac­cord­ing to re­gional Span­ish news­pa­per Diario In­for­ma­ción, the Guardia Civil of­fi­cers ar­rested were sta­tioned in Tor­re­vieja and Pi­lar de la Ho­radada.

The in­ves­ti­ga­tion is be­ing su­per­vised by a judge from Tor­re­vieja court­house.

A spokesman for the Guardia Civil ex­plained that Op­er­a­tion Sakura had been launched in the prov­inces of Ali­cante, Va­len­cia, Cádiz and Mur­cia fol­low­ing an of­fi­cial com­plaint pre­sented by a mem­ber of the pub­lic, who had ‘made the au­thor­i­ties aware of the ac­tiv­i­ties of this group’.

Ac­cord­ing to In­for­ma­ción, the in­ves­ti­ga­tion be­gan in 2015.

The Guardia Civil press re­lease notes: “The in­ves­ti­ga­tions car­ried out by Ali­cante Guardia Civil have ended with the ar­rest of nine men who hail from Spain, Bri­tain, Bel­gium and Colom­bia who formed part of a crim­i­nal or­gan­i­sa­tion ded­i­cated to traf­fick­ing drugs, along with 10 Guardia Civil of­fi­cers – and seven more sus­pects are un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion.”
