Man shoots his ex at Elda school gates
AT AROUND 17.00 on Wednesday, parents were picking up their children from the Santo Negro de Elda School.
Suddenly, shots were heard, and a four-year-old little boy ran screaming for help back into the school.
His father, who had a restraining order preventing him from getting closer than 300 metres to the boy's mother, had shot her twice while the young boy was getting into the car.
The woman managed to get out of the car and run, but was shot another three times.
The boy's father then got in her car to escape, but as he tried to avoid oncoming traffic he went up the pavement and got stuck between a tree and the school barriers, which is when he chose to put the gun in his mouth and kill himself.
The boy's mother had reported him to the police several times for gender violence. The pair never married, but lived together for six years, during which time their son was born.
The killer, from Elda, did not have a gun licence and was not known to possess a gun.
The previous evening, he was arrested and spent the night in jail for breaking the restraining order, but was released the next day by a judge.
His victim, who lives in Montforte del Cid, is currently in a coma, fighting for her life.
