Calpe mayor stands aside
POLITICIAN Cesar Sanchez is to stand aside as mayor of Calpe to concentrate on his duties as president of the Alicante provincial government.
He was first elected to the helm of the Marina Alta town in 2011 and retained the post as mayor following the 2015 local elections; however, in recent months combining both roles has become increasingly difficult and Mr Sanchez, a member of the conservative Partido Popular, will not seek a third term as mayor.
Ending speculation about future roles within the town hall, the PP confirmed the move on Tuesday. An announcement about who will succeed Mr Sanchez at the head of the party list and as mayor elect is expected soon.
