Choco­late and hu­man tow­ers for Va­len­cia Day

BEN­I­TACHELL marked the Va­len­cia Day hol­i­day with a street party with fam­i­lies en­joy­ing mu­sic, food, drink, and com­mu­nity events – queues quickly formed to sam­ple a tra­di­tional treat; hot choco­late with chur­ros.

A hu­man tower of power – called a ‘castell’ – was built out­side Javea town hall to the de­light of a crowd gath­ered to cel­e­brate Va­len­cia day.

Cre­at­ing the liv­ing mon­u­ments is a tra­di­tion both in Va­len­cia and Cat­alo­nia; in­side the town an­other tra­di­tion was be­ing hon­oured, as the mayor recog­nised the con­tri­bu­tion of two lead­ing cit­i­zens with an award to mark Oc­to­ber 9.
