THE EQUIVALENT of more than 24,700 glass bottles were recycled during Benissa’s Moors and Christians event this year, figures have revealed.

The ‘Reconquest of Glass’ was an initiative launched by recycling company Ecovidrio, and was held in association with the Valencian provincial government and Benissa council. Just over 6,500 kilogrammes of glass was collected during the festivities.

With this figure, Benissa is currently placed in first position of the ‘Dolçaines ranking’, equating to each resident recycling 12.62 kg of glass containers. The town hall is waiting to know the results from the rest of the participating towns. “Six and a half tonnes is an important figure for the recycling campaign at the Moors and Christians Festivities, so the evaluation is very positive.” said Domènec Miralles, Moors and Christians co-ordinator.

Recycling bins had been placed on literally every corner of the town centre, which clearly encouraged their usage.
