Livesaving training
TORREVIEJA hospital has provided training in first aid and CPR to members of the municipality’s taekwondo club and volunteers for APANEE, the association for parents of children with special educational needs.
The club is organising an inclusive summer school with adapted activities so the children from APANEE can take part.
A group of 20 monitors were educated in these lifesaving techniques, which need to be known by anybody who is working with children.
The participants were able to use mannequins to practise the recovery position and Heimlich manoeuvre – which clears obstructions from the respiratory channel if someone is choking.
Hospital professionals also showed them basic resuscitation, first response in cases of cardiac arrest, and how to provide cardiac first aid until specialised medical teams arrive.
This intensive course was overseen by Lilian Moreno Barquero from the hospital emergency department.
Also attending were councillor for sports Diana Box, APANEE president María José Sánchez and Club de Taekwondo de Torrevieja president Domingo Gómez Carrillo.
