Police seize counterfeit clothing
NATIONAL Police have shut down a warehouse in Crevillente for allegedly distributing fake brand name clothing and accessories.
The force had received a tipoff from Alicante local police following an operation at the Babel market in the city in September.
Surveillance had found several stalls selling fake products.
At the time officers confiscated these items and started criminal proceedings for alleged offences against industrial property.
The investigation indicated that the goods were being supplied to various places in the city by a warehouse which was open to the public and regularly visited by traders who run stalls at markets, principally in municipalities around Alicante and Murcia provinces.
With all this information, the National Police set up their own surveillance operation on the warehouse in order to plan an inspection.
A force spokesman explained that the officers’ searched the premises and confiscated approximately 3,000 garments which purported to be made by several wellknown companies, as well as € 2,400 in small notes.
They also arrested the manager of the shop and another three suspects who were involved with the alleged industrial property offence.
The suspects are all of Chinese origin and aged between 22 and 54.
The confiscated goods have been sent for forensic analysis to determine their authenticity, stated the spokesman.
Several of the affected brands congratulated the police on the successful operation.
One of them claimed it had been the largest yet in the country, since their brand had only recently been set up and gone on the market.
