Delight at generous donations

- By Jack Troughton

FUNDRAISING event ‘ An Afternoon’s Delight’ fell victim to coronavirus health restrictions but generous ticket holders still donated part of their ticket price and helped to raise € 500.

The money was split equally between two good causes; Benidoleig’s team of Civil Protection volunteers and animal charity Jalón Valley ARC.

Organised by Michelle Nolan and Jenny Hart, the

Benidoleig event was intended to be a lunch with live music and entertainment and sold out. Unfortunately, because of Covid19 rules, it was cancelled on two occasions.

Instead Michelle and Jenny contacted ticket holders and asked for a small donation, raising muchneeded cash for the two associations.

The Civil Protection team has thanked the pair for the hard work and those who generously donated to the volunteer community service; hoping a similar event can be staged next year.

The volunteers have been busy during the pandemic by helping disinfect shops and streets in the village and helping visitors to the weekly market safe. The team helps direct traffic during a calendar full of events and is always on hand to help in emergencies.

Summer is always a busy time, mounting a fire watch in the area and assisting the professionals in fire fighting when the need arises.
