Policing the hunters
The hunting season began yesterday (Thursday, October 12) and during the last few weeks Elche local police have been in close contact with the Guardia Civil environmental service (SEPRONA) to coordinate their vigilance of game reserves.
City hall’s officers will also be keeping a close eye on environmentally protected areas, such as the Clot de Galvany, places where people go hiking and busy recreational areas, such as the reservoir. The local police reminded hunters that they must keep the minimum legal distances away from inhabited homes and pathways.
A force spokesman said they have been in contact with the regional hunting federation and so hope that any incidents will be minimal and respecting safety will be the hunters’ priority.
