Facelift for maternity unit
By Nuria Pérez THE MATERNITY unit at Vega Baja hospital has been spruced up on the strength of suggestions made from mothers-to-be and their relatives.
The furniture, wardrobes and doors have been replaced, air conditioning and lights have been revamped and bathrooms have been rebuilt and adapted to the needs of the mothers.
A hospital spokeswoman said bars have been installed on walls to prevent accidents and falls in the bathrooms.
The unit has also been painted and decorated too to make it more welcoming, she explained.
At the same time a medicine unit, the kitchens and a rooftop of the emergency unit have also been refurbished at the hospital.
The works were started this summer and formed part of a regional plan to refurbish health facilities.
