Dogs saved from starving

TWO extremely emaciated dogs have been rescued and the decomposing remains of two others were found by Elche local police in a rural home in the district of Daimés.

Neighbours had reported that the animals may have been abandoned and officers arrived on Monday morning to find a German shepherd and a Labrador that were clearly starving.

The dogs were taken to the municipal vet and the owners of the property were contacted and gave permission for a search when they arrived.

The decomposing remains of two small dogs were found in an area that was full of excrement. The owners claimed they had asked animal charities to take the dogs but did not proceed because they could not afford the cost.

The surviving dogs have been given to the animal protection association in Bacarot and the evidence from the scene has been passed to a court to consider a possible charge of animal abuse and abandonment.
