Temporary closure for CMO cafeteria
By Dave Jones THE CAFETERIA in Torrevieja’s municipal leisure centre (Centro Municipal de Ocio CMO) has been closed down until a new contract is signed to run the facility.
Councillor for senior citizens Fabiana Ibarra said the contracts to run the bar and the services in other pensioners’ centres in the municipality – have now been put out to tender.
She said that it was foreseen that the CMO cafeteria would only be closed for a short period of time while the service is adjudicated for the building which stands behind Carrefour and the Habaneras shopping centre.
“The CMO is not being closed down, just the cafeteria,” she noted. “The building will carry on working as usual.”
Council officers will carry out an inventory of the facility to see if any restoration work is needed while the cafeteria is closed, she added.
Sra Ibarra noted that contracts for the CMO and the services in the other pensioners’ centres were being offered on an individual basis and did not have to be run collectively.
In this way they will avoid contracting the services out to one large company.
“Each of the centres will have a cafeteria service which is more neighbourly,” she said.
“It is a good opportunity for families who want to start a business.”
