ALICANTE archaeology museum (MARQ) has become the first museum in Spain to obtain the Q for quality tourism certificate, announced the provincial government.

This distinction, which is awarded by the institute for quality Spanish tourism (ICTE), evaluates the organisation, services and facilities of establishments in the sector.

The MARQ received an excellent rating, with all of its services that were evaluated receiving a score of 9.8 out of 10.

Provincial deputy for culture, César Augusto Asencio said: “It is a great pride both for the centre and the province, as it supports and vouches for the extraordinary management and services offered by the MARQ, which are also recognised at an international level.”

Among other aspects, the inspection audited how well the MARQ plans its activities, its accessibility, information and attention to visitors, safety signposting, exhibition spaces, parking and shop, as well as its development in harmony with the environment. The MARQ’s combination of scientific and investigative rigour with explanations in language everyone can understand enables it to increase its attendance figures year after year.
