Run for me, Orihuela
By Alex Watkins ORIHUELA will be holding its second annual ‘Corre por mi, Orihuela’ (run for me) march and race against breast cancer in aid of the AECC on October 21.
Councillor for sports Víctor Valverde said they hope this charity event will become firmly established by everyone getting involved to help such a good cause.
The president of the AECC in Orihuela, Irene Celdrán explained the money raised will fund research into the disease, and invited people to spend a nice day out with their family.
There will be various ways to take part: a 3.5 kilometre walk, or a race of 3.5km or 7km.
The price to do so is €10 and registration is available on the website asuspuestos.com or in the AECC office Monday-Friday from 17.00-20.00.
Sr Valverde emphasised how important the association and their cause are to society. By Alex Watkins IF you love great food and interesting conversations then come along to Orihuela Costa political party CLARO’s Tapas & Chat event taking place on Tuesday, October 16 from 18:00 at Alfie’s Bar in Lomas de Cabo Roig.
They recommend that residents of the area should come not only because there will be free food, only drinks will be charged for, but also because, ‘you'll get to meet some really interesting and passionate people behind CLARO who work so hard to clean and modernise Orihuela Costa’.
“Understand what CLARO desires for Orihuela Costa, what we really fight for and how we can gain new supportive members like yourself,” they said.
Issues that have been concerning them lately include the decline in the registered population from 93,000 in 2013 to 76,000 this year; the need for a cultural centre with a library and rooms to hold different activities; and the high school failure rate in Orihuela Costa is one of the highest in Europe at over 70%.
