Elche shows its Middle Age spread
By Barry Wright THE ELCHE medieval festival returns from October 25-November 1.
In a change from previous years, the event will no longer be based around Santa María basilica but at the Paseo de la Estación and in the vicinity of the Altamira palace.
This is the 23rd edition of the festival and, in addition to the medieval market, features a total of 12 theatre, music, and dance shows at different locations throughout the city.
Highlights include a performance by the acclaimed actor Rafael Álvarez ‘El Brujo’, who will be performing a work based on the life of San Juan de la Cruz (John of the Cross), plus theatre companies from Castilla-León, Andalucía, Valencia and Elche itself.
There will also be three performances of the liturgical Mystery play of Elche, declared by UNESCO to be a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity..
