Rural fare at the Fireta
By Barry Wright THE ANNUAL Elche Fireta rural fair takes place along the city’s Paseo de la Estación this weekend.
The event runs from today (Friday, October 12) until Sunday, October 14 and aims to highlight the traditions, gastronomy and crafts of the municipality’s rural areas.
The event features almost 60 stalls, representing various agricultural associations, craftspeople, gastronomy and more.
It is divided into various zones, including a gastronomic area offering typical local food and tapas, a children’s area with traditional games, a horse and farm animal display area and a farming/agricultural machinery area.
The programme of activities includes a traditional shepherding exhibition, children’s theatre, competitions, a traditional clothing parade, gastronomy workshops, a palm tree climbing exhibition, a white palm modelling workshop and much more.
The fair opens at 10.00 today with an ecological market, which continues throughout the duration of the event.
