Ru­ral fare at the Fireta

By Barry Wright THE AN­NUAL Elche Fireta ru­ral fair takes place along the city’s Paseo de la Estación this week­end.

The event runs from to­day (Fri­day, Oc­to­ber 12) un­til Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 14 and aims to high­light the tra­di­tions, gas­tron­omy and crafts of the mu­nic­i­pal­ity’s ru­ral ar­eas.

The event fea­tures al­most 60 stalls, rep­re­sent­ing var­i­ous agri­cul­tural as­so­ci­a­tions, crafts­peo­ple, gas­tron­omy and more.

It is di­vided into var­i­ous zones, in­clud­ing a gas­tro­nomic area of­fer­ing typ­i­cal lo­cal food and tapas, a chil­dren’s area with tra­di­tional games, a horse and farm an­i­mal dis­play area and a farm­ing/agri­cul­tural ma­chin­ery area.

The pro­gramme of ac­tiv­i­ties in­cludes a tra­di­tional shep­herd­ing ex­hi­bi­tion, chil­dren’s the­atre, com­pe­ti­tions, a tra­di­tional cloth­ing pa­rade, gas­tron­omy work­shops, a palm tree climb­ing ex­hi­bi­tion, a white palm mod­el­ling work­shop and much more.

The fair opens at 10.00 to­day with an eco­log­i­cal mar­ket, which con­tin­ues through­out the du­ra­tion of the event.
