Can We Run... together?
Participants can either run or walk with their pets at this great family day out
By Barry Wright THE GOALS of the Can We Run project are to raise awareness of the importance of having a pet, to make more municipalities pet-friendly and get them accepted in more public spaces, the creation of more animal-friendly green spaces, the active promotion of physical exercise and to encourage adoption of stray animals.
To this end, the regional press group Prensa Ibérica has organised a series of races in eight of the nine regions in which they have a presence.
Diario Información is part of the Prensa Ibérica group and is responsible for the Alicante race on Sunday, October 28.
Now comes the unusual part of the event: the race is open to individuals or family accompanied by their pet.
To be in with a chance of finishing within an acceptable timeframe, a dog - as opposed to a hamster or a goldfish - will help no end, but a cheetah would be bordering on a dead cert.
Can We Run takes place at the Parque Sergio Melgares, situated between Calle Periodista Tirso Marín and Avenida de las Naciones in Alicante city and features two runs: a three kilometre route for individual runners accompanied by their pets, and a one kilometre course for families.
Participants can either run or walk with their pets.
Although the event is noncompetitive, there will be trophies for the winners of both categories.
Can We Run is also sponsored by El Corte Inglés and Advance, with the collaboration of Boomerang and Trixie.
Prior registration costs €6.95 for an individual and pet; €3.95 for a minor (aged under 18 years, who must have signed permission from a parent or guardian) and pet; and €17.95 for two adults and two children and a pet.
Registration is also taking place on the day with prices being €10, €6 and €25 respectively.
