An 82-year-old woman had both legs am­pu­tated be­low the knees af­ter be­ing sav­agely at­tacked on Sun­day by a neigh­bour’s dogs. The vic­tim, from Covelo, Gali­cia, was walk­ing home when the two an­i­mals rushed at her, bit­ing off one of her feet and drag­ging her 30 me­tres along the ground. She was res­cued by her fam­ily and rushed to hospi­tal where she is in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion. The dogs are in the pound and their owner has been charged with gre­vi­ous bod­ily harm. On­line re­tail gi­ant Ama­zon an­nounced last week that it is hir­ing 2,700 staff to strengthen its lo­gis­tics cen­tres in Madrid and Barcelona ahead of the busy Christ­mas cam­paign. The work­ers will pick up, pack and ship de­liv­er­ies from the San Fer­nando de Henares, El Prat and Mar­torelles cen­tres. The num­ber of tem­po­rary em­ploy­ees is much higher than the 1,000 taken on for the fes­tive sea­son last year.
