Benissa cel­e­brate Moors & Chris­tians

The an­nual Moors and Chris­tian festival is back in Benissa.

The first get to­gether was on Satur­day, June 24 with the main events tak­ing place from July 1.

Some 450 vil­lagers will take part in the fi­es­tas, many of whom are third gen­er­a­tion fes­teros.

Af­ter a year of hard work fundrais­ing to en­sure the fi­es­tas can take place, a va­ri­ety of ac­tiv­i­ties have been or­gan­ised in­clud­ing the grand pa­rade on July 3rd.

Satur­day, July 1 at 12.30: Remembrance of the de­ceased fes­teros at the mu­nic­i­pal ceme­tery.

19.30: Mu­sic bands pa­rade.

20.00: Grand pa­rade from C/Va­len­cia to C/Nou.

Sun­day, July 2 at 11.00: Pa­rade through the streets and a visit to the nurs­ing home.

12.00: Flower of­fer­ing and mass in hon­our of Saint Peter Apos­tle at the church.

18.30: Chil­dren's en­try pa­rade and tra­di­tional con­test.

20.00: At­tack of the Moor­ish troops from the Con­vent square to Dolores Piera square, fol­lowed by the Moor­ish con­quest of the Cas­tle.

Mon­day, July 3 at 10.30: At­tack of the Chris­tian troops fol­lowed by the Chris­tian con­quest of the Cas­tle.

19.30: Mu­sic bands pa­rade fol­lowed by a fancy dress pa­rade as an end to this year's fi­es­tas.
