Benissa celebrate Moors & Christians
The annual Moors and Christian festival is back in Benissa.
The first get together was on Saturday, June 24 with the main events taking place from July 1.
Some 450 villagers will take part in the fiestas, many of whom are third generation festeros.
After a year of hard work fundraising to ensure the fiestas can take place, a variety of activities have been organised including the grand parade on July 3rd.
Saturday, July 1 at 12.30: Remembrance of the deceased festeros at the municipal cemetery.
19.30: Music bands parade.
20.00: Grand parade from C/Valencia to C/Nou.
Sunday, July 2 at 11.00: Parade through the streets and a visit to the nursing home.
12.00: Flower offering and mass in honour of Saint Peter Apostle at the church.
18.30: Children's entry parade and traditional contest.
20.00: Attack of the Moorish troops from the Convent square to Dolores Piera square, followed by the Moorish conquest of the Castle.
Monday, July 3 at 10.30: Attack of the Christian troops followed by the Christian conquest of the Castle.
19.30: Music bands parade followed by a fancy dress parade as an end to this year's fiestas.
