Bellreguard major roadworks start

Roads in La Safor are gradually getting an overhaul at the hands of the provincial council, or Diputación de Valencia, which is responsible for highways.

The CV-673 and part of the beach road in Bellreguard is due to be resurfaced in the next few weeks at a cost of €70,000, funded entirely by the Diputación, and works have now been finished on the La Font d'En Carròs-Oliva road and on the new CV-685 roundabout in Ador, near Villalonga.

Longer-term plans are afoot for the much-needed Rafelcofer bypass, which will ease traffic in L'Alqueria de la Comtessa and, more crucially, make it easier to get to the CV-60 Villalonga-Vall d'Albaida motorway – a very handy trafficand toll-free back route to Alicante airport from La Safor.

L'Alqueria's mayor is concerned, however, about plans to link the CV-697 to the N-332, saying it would affect residents' access to 'one of the main shopping areas' in the town, and is also too close to a special school between the two.
