Manises fire near airport hotel
News staff reporter A BLAZE broke out in a dry riverbed near the Valencia airport industrial estate in the early hours of Tuesday, causing clouds of black smoke that could be seen from outside the terminal.
The inferno started in the Salt de l'Aigua ravine in Manises close to the Hotel Azafata, and was initially thought to be a minor inci- dent – but strong winds fanned the flames and it began to spread at an alarming rate.
Firefighters had their work cut out trying to keep it contained, but by around 09.00 they said it was 'more or less under control'.
Despite its proximity to one of the main airport hotels, nobody had to be evacuated.
