Angling competition ends in broken bones
A fisherman who broke his leg and foot during a competition had to be air-lifted to hospital from Jávea's remote Cala Sardinera cove.
The patient, 66, was in the area as part of an angling tournament organised by his club in San Vicente del Raspeig on Sunday morning when he fell down part of the cliff.
He had not caught anything by the time of his accident, meaning he was disqualified from the compeition.
The Cala Sardinera is a steep rockface above a beach only accessible via a nearvertical footpath, and was a regular 'workplace' for fishermen who lived off their catch in the last century.
