New weather station installed on Cumbre del Sol

Costa Levante News - - NEWS -

By Jo Pugh A NEW meteorological station has been installed at the top of the Cumbre del Sol and linked to Benitachell town hall's website, so residents can now consult up to-the-minute data regarding local conditions and check the short-term forecast.

The station located at Puig Llorença will measure and register meteorological variables like temperature, humidity, barometer, wind speed, wind direction and rain every five minutes. It will also report astronomical data such as sunrise and sunset times, and the latitude and longitude for each day.

It will accumulate the data over the months and years, with the aim that previous conditions for past years are easily available for consultation, especially in the area of climatic studies.

The new station cost €600 and was paid for by Toni Bolufer, head of Meteoxabia, who offered to pay for its cost and in- stallation.

Environment councillor Manolo Segarra said: "The new station will be very useful for everyday life, as well as for security. We are convinced that it will become a consultation tool for Civil Protection and Local Police for hypothetical preventive actions."

The data and forecast can be found at www.meteoxabia.com/ estacions/puig/puig.htm
