Sierra de Mariola forest fire

Costa Levante News - - NEWS -

A blaze that broke out in the Sierra de Mariola nature reserve on Monday night sparked panic in Bocairent (Vall d'Albaida, Valencia province), but nobody had to be evacuated, emergency services confirmed.

The only casualty is around half an acre of mature pine forest.

Firefighters were called out at about 20.15 and took little more than half an hour to contain the flames.

It was declared 'under control' by 22.00, meaning it was mostly extinguished but still smouldering and having to be monitored to avert a possible new flare-up, said Ontinyent and Xàtiva fire brigades, who attended the scene.
